Posting Late Today

Well, I am posting late today because I kept thinking that maybe I would feel up to doing Day 3 of P90X. But I have just felt tired all day. I got home around 2:00 p.m. I left early today, but I made a few stops on the way home. Yesterday was a fun day of being with out-of-town friends. I first met one friend at Shrimp and Stuff. I did great- boiled shrimp and a few crackers with red sauce and a small amount of Romalaude sauce. I also had eaten some nuts on the three hour drive to Galveston. After lunch we made it to the beach. Although it rained on me all the way to Houston, Galveston was hot and sunny and great weather. So, I got too much sun. We had dinner at The Spot and I weakened... stuffed shrimp, fries, and cole slaw with a glass of wine. Then we went on to minature golf (we had two teenagers with us). I had not played this course since my kids were young. We had fun. We made it back to the condo, and since there were two of us that piled up with my friend and her husband, daughter and her friend, I made a pallet on the floor while the other friend slept on the couch. I had a great "bed", but I still had trouble sleeping. It is just one of those menopausal symptoms. So today.. I was tired.. sleepy... sore from my workout.. a little sunburn. I came home and took about a 2 hour nap which I NEVER do. Like I said, I kept thinking I will go in there and do my workout, but I didn't. Yes, I do need to push myself. I am not giving in, but I am not going full force today.

Here is what I had to eat today:
Breakfast- at the breakfast buffet at the condo
about 3/4 cup of scrambled eggs
2 sausage patties
1/2 c milk
1/2 c granola
decaf coffee

Snack- my own concoction of mixed nuts- about 1/4 c
pstachios, peanuts, almonds, sunflower seeds, and craisins

lunch- 2 left over stuffed shrimp

Dinner at 3-
green salad with grilled chicken

Snack- pstachios- a whole bunch

I had a vanilla diet coke from Sonic when I left Galveston, I drank water when I got home and I made my own version of cranberry juice- filtered water with cranberry concentrate and stevia.

So I won't say I did good, but I won't say I did bad. Tomorrow I will do Day 3. I am thinking that I may have to retitle my workout to P120X because I don't know that I will be doing it 6 days a week. I will keep plugging away.

Day 2 P90X- Plyometrics

Okay, let me just say when Tony says this is the extreme of P90X, he is not lying. I only made it through about half of it. Plyometrics is a lot of squatting and jumping. I don't think I am pushing myself hard enough, but who wants to push themselves to vomiting? Yes.. that is how I felt. I was cooler in the back of the house, but still very hot. I am assuming I felt this way because my heart rate was up. And I did feel nauseated. But hey, I know myself. If I had vomited, I would say to heck with this.. send it back.. I have 30 days. But no, you keep going and do the best you can. If you quit before finishing, you will only get better as time goes on. I must continue. I ended up setting up my exercise in my college son;s bedroom. He will be home for a few weeks in August after he completes summer school. I may have to move it to another room for those two weeks. Also Jen, it may sound like I did good by doing the pushups, but I should be doing good. I have been doing a core strengthening class for a year and a half which involved pushups. I just never did that many!!! I quit my fitness fusion class because they were going from 3x a week to 5x a week and doubling the gym fee. But hey.. I think my body needed a change. I was not very good advertizement for them. Breakfast today was a 100 calorie English muffin with one piece turkey bacon and 3 egg whites. Okay, I am getting ready to go to Galveston.. bikini.. no.. maybe next year!!!

My Food Diary

Okay here is what I had:
breakfast-5 egg whites with mozarella cheese stick
snack- Activia peach yogurt
lunch- 2 oz chicken salad package from Big Lots (did not eat the crackers)
dinner- 6 oz top sirloin, asparagus, corn on the cob
snack- a few pstachios, cocoa almonds and about 5 gluten free crackers

I did not drink enough water today. Dh had bought some Diet DP this weekend, and I finished off the bottle. I don't usually drink Diet. He got it instead of the real thing. So tomorrow I am going to Galveston. I hope to eat some good seafood- boiled or grilled or blackened shrimp or some type of fish. I did good today by having very few carbohydrates.

Day 1-P90X-Chest and Back

Okay, I just finished my first day of P90X. I don't know if you could call this a full workout or not because I was struggling with most of it. I do not have the chinup bar, so I was using the bands instead. I am hoping that I was doing that right. I did not find that too difficult so I am thinking that I did it incorrectly or I need stronger bands. The pushups- oh my gosh.. now I can do a regular pushup, but all the different kinds-the regular, the military, the wide hands, the decline, the heart hands.... so, I opted each time to do the "girl" version, which is on my knees instead of my feet for those of you who do not know this. I was able to do about 15 each time. When I got to the divebombers... hmm... I could only do about 3or 4 of those. I did do the dive bombers from my feet. I totally had to skip the decline. I am just not there yet. I could do the lawnmowers and the heavy pants. Anytime I was using dumbbells, I had no trouble. In fact, I was using 10 lb dumbbells, and I think I need too go up to 12 lb.

So here are some of the changes I plan to make for doing my P90X. Yes, changes already that I am making to insure my success. I am going to be doing it in the hallway of the back of my house instead of my large kitchen area. I am going to try this. We have two Central AC units- one for the bedroom section of the house and one for the living room/kitchen section of the house. At night we don't cool the living area.. we cut it up to 85, but the bedroom is about 75. Well, since I am doing this workout in the morning, the kitchen is not cool enough. So, I am hoping I can have enough room in the hallway. I will try this tomorrow. Also, I HAVE to go to bed earlier so I can get up early and do this so there are no telephone interruptions. I also need to make sure I am more hydrated. I was just not feeling great when I started. I was dehydrated and tired.

Tomorrow I am going out of town so I am hoping to do Day 2 before I go. And I am spending the night so I will have to do Day 3 when I return on Saturday. I am about to go to the grocery store to get more of the right type of food- fish, salad makings, fruit-grapes, cherries, bananas and pineapple. I will get some rice cakes and pstachios. I have the Mozarella cheese sticks. I will get some LF cheddar and skim milk. Also so peanut butter and almond butter. I am going to the beach tomorrow to stay with some friends in a condo, so I am gonna try to get my food cooked up and take it with me. I will go out on Friday night, but for breakfast, lunch, and snacks, I don't want to be tempted with their potato chips and cookies.

After staying up late last night and reading my beachbody coach's blog, I can tell you that I am not dedicated like her. I don't know how successful I will be. I am seeing that to really lose weight and have a healthy body, it takes being focused and determined. It takes a totally different mindset tham what our culture has.. which is all about pleasing ourselves and overindulgence. We are not a very self-denying kind of people. So... I hope to be different in my thinking as well as my shape. Right now I am not thinking I want to reveal my before photos. In fact, I haven't even taken them yet. Oh, and here is what I have had for breakfast-5 egg whites in an omelet with LF mozarella cheese stick grated in it. I added a little enchilada sauce and I had a glass of Diet Dr. Pepper. Yes, it will be gone soon, and no more of that. I will post later about my lunch and dinner.

P90X

Okay, here I go. Tomorrow is the day that I start P90X. I ordered this a couple of weeks ago, but with going out of town and keeping my granddaughter, I have not been able to start it. I have viewed some of the DVD's and familiarized myself with the diet. I have now have Jen as my P90X coach. It may take me much longer than 90 days to do this. I don't know if this 55-year old body can do it. But I am going to "do my best and forget the rest." This is what Tony, the creator of this program, says. Right now it is late and I need to go to bed. I will post more later about this program.

New Header and Background

I have such a creative daughter.. she made me a new header and background. Don't you love it? You know how these daughters are... they help us in all kinds of ways. She also let me know a few years ago that I had to get rid of my narrow leg jeans. I fought hard though. I kept telling her they were my favorites. Well I finally gave in to the "low rise" and the boot cut. She doesn't want me to dress young... just not like an old lady. I guess I better keep working out to avoid elastic waist pants. I don't think she would approve. Anyway, thanks for my new layout!!

Any Suggestions?

I guess I need to get used to changes in things that I wish would not change. I began really trying to be more active 6 years ago. I walked long distances for an entire year before I decided to go back to weight lifting which I had done when I was young. So I was at a club that had a pool and weight equipment, and I got it all for a bargain. I stayed there for three years until the club was sold to a school. And they covered the pool, and now they are trying to sell it. So my FF class that I have been attending for 1 1/2 years three days a week has changed their classes. There will no longer be a 3-day a week, but instead a 5-day a week. And they doubled the price. So... I haven't decided whether to join another gym.. one that has weights, one that has classes, one that has both, or try to do the workout at home. Yeah.. can I make myself do it? I have been reading about this P90X and Cathe's workout. Does anyone out there do these? I would like to hear what works for you, and any other suggestions you might have.
